India

The Indian government plans to suppress internet content in the country, many compare this move to the internet censorship in
China. "Under the proposed rules, Indian officials could demand that Facebook, Google, Twitter, TikTok, and others remove posts
or videos that they deem libelous, invasive of privacy, hateful, or deceptive. " There are tools in place to block so-called unlawful
contents from the public. The government says these rules are in place to prevent the abuse and misuse of social media, however in
reality these censorships have a political motive behind them.
During the pandemic, India had a devastating second wave. Cases were surging, and people were suffering badly. However, the government
still tried to suppress the voice of the people by taking down posts from social media that described or related to the COVID crisis
there. For example, "police in the state of Uttar Pradesh filed a complaint against a man who asked for medical oxygen for his dying
grandfather on Twitter, claiming that he was 'spreading misleading information." This was one of the many instances where the
government tried to censor the internet, however, censoring the people's voices does more harm than good.
