Internet Censorship Around the World

In 2021, after an anti-government protest in Cuba, Cuban authorities blocked Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, and Telegram. "While Cuba’s recent easing of access to the internet has increased social media activity, the level of censorship has also risen." It suppresses the voices of people inside the country and also limits outsiders to know about what is going on inside the country. "The Cuban government also restricts independent media in Cuba and "routinely blocks access within Cuba to many news websites and blogs," according to Human Rights Watch."
The protest was fueled by the help of social media. People were more informed about the circumstances and connected and stood against the government. As a result of that, the government tried to restrict access to the internet for the public.
